INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Guidelines for authors

Inter-Ação magazine accepts for publication articles, essays, reviews, and other academic texts (conferences, interviews, lectures, etc.) that are unpublished, written in Portuguese or other languages, resulting from theoretical studies and research that focus on the production of knowledge about education, covering mainly the following themes or lines of research: Culture and educational processes; Education, work, and social movements; State, policies, and history of education; Teacher training, professionalization, and educational practices; and Fundamentals of educational processes.

Provided that the proposing authors have not published in the last three issues of this journal, the evaluation of the works will be carried out by a double-blind system of ad hoc reviewers and members of the Scientific Council. In the event of divergent opinions, a third party will be consulted. Any suggestions for changes by the editorial board will be made with the consensus of the authors. The texts published express the opinions of their authors alone.

All works must be submitted through the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER) at: https://www.revistas.ufg.br/interacao/index. The text must be saved in Microsoft Word format and any possible identification of authorship must be removed from the document, as authorship is identified through metadata.

The metadata (the term “metadata” refers to the completion of certain fields when submitting the document) must be filled in with the name(s) of the author(s), the institution to which they belong, and email, postal address, telephone number(s) of the author(s), and titles of the article and abstracts in the original language of the article, in Spanish, and in English. A brief description in the biography section is also required and will be included at the end of the article. It is also essential to include the author's ORCID in the specific field of the submission form.

The text must be typed in Word, Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing, and 1.18-inch (3 cm) margins. The maximum number of pages for the different contributions is: 18 for articles, 12 for essays and scientific communications, and 5 for reviews. These limits include abstracts and bibliographic references.

Articles should begin with an abstract of no more than 10 lines, containing objectives, main methods, conclusions, and four keywords in the language of the document. They should also include the title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English at the end of the text and before the references. For more information on the structure of the article, see ABNT NBR 6022/2003 standard on information and documentation—Articles in printed scientific periodicals. For information on writing abstracts, see ABNT NBR 6028/2003 standard on information and documentation—Abstracts.

All citations must be presented in accordance with ABNT NBR 10520/2002 standard for information and documentation—citations in documents. General rules: direct citations of up to three lines are reproduced in double quotation marks exactly as they appear in the original, within the text and with the source indicated (Author, year of publication, page). Direct quotations of more than three lines should be indented 4 cm from the left margin, in 10-point font with single spacing between lines, without quotation marks and with the source indicated (Author, year of publication, page). Indirect quotations are inserted within the text with the source indicated (author and year of publication).

Other important observations: notes should be objective, substantive in nature, numbered, and placed at the end of the text (before the references), i.e., notes should include comments and not merely indicate the author and work; acronyms and abbreviations should be spelled out when first mentioned in the text; charts, graphs, maps, and illustrations, if indispensable to the understanding of the document, should be inserted as close as possible to the passage to which they refer, numbered, and with an indication of their respective sources; tables inserted within the text should follow the IBGE guidelines for the presentation of tables.

Bibliographic references should be presented at the end of the article, in alphabetical order. For emphasis or highlighting, use italics rather than bold. References should be aligned to the left only, with single spacing between lines. Consult the ABNT NBR 6023/2002 standard ABNT NBR 6023:2025 information and documentation-references.

Articles section: The articles section consists of scientific articles on subjects consistent with the focus and scope of the journal, which do not need to address the theme of the dossier.
Review section: This section is intended for the publication of reviews, i.e., concise presentations of works relevant to the focus and scope of Inter-Ação.
Essay section: The essay section is intended for the publication of texts that deal with a specific aspect of a theme and which, although not as extensive or in-depth as an article, situate this theme in relation to the area studied.

Submission requirements

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify that their submission complies with all of the items listed below. Submissions that do not comply with the guidelines will be returned to the authors.
  1. The article is in line with the theme of the currently open call (this criterion does not apply to reviews);
    At this time, the journal is only accepting submissions for calls with specific themes. If the article does not comply with the theme of the open call, the submission will be archived.
  2. The contribution is original, unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, justify in “Comments to the Editor.”
    Works submitted to the journal will undergo a rigorous plagiarism analysis. Inter-Ação reserves the right to reject articles that contain plagiarism or significant self-plagiarism (use of previous works by the same author published in other journals without proper reference).
  3. The file for submission is in Word format (‘example.doc’) and does not exceed 4MB;
  4. All links in the text (e.g., http://www.ibict.br) are active and ready to click;
  5. The text is formatted in Times New Roman font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and 1.18-inch (3 cm) margins on all sides;
  6. The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Guidelines for Authors, in the About the Journal section. Submissions that do not meet the items below may be immediately archived.
    • Title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish;
    • Maximum number of pages;
    • Rules for citations in the body of the work;
    • Rules for bibliographic references.
  7. The Word file does not contain any identification of authorship.
    To remove the identification, open the file in Word, click on the Office button > Prepare > Inspect Document. Select only the option “Document Properties and Personal Information” and inspect; if the program finds information, click “Remove All.”
    This procedure ensures the journal's confidentiality criteria. Information regarding authorship should only be included in the Inter Ação Journal Electronic System in the section for filling out metadata;
  8. The metadata (third step of the submission) must be filled in with:
    • The names of the authors. The inclusion of names at a later date is not permitted.
    • For each author: institution/affiliation and summary of biography (example: latest education, line of research, and topics of interest);
    • Keywords (minimum three, maximum five);
  9. My profile in the system (top menu, “user page” option, and “edit my profile”) is updated with the following data:
    • Email;
    • Phone number;
    • Address.

You must indicate which edition your submission is intended for by entering the name of the dossier in the COMMENTS FOR THE EDITOR field at the end of this form.

Submissions from authors who have published in the journal less than 12 months ago will not be accepted. Reviews of works dated more than 2 years ago will not be accepted. Inter-Ação reserves the right to exclude submissions at any time in such cases.

Peer review process

Original texts undergo four stages:
  1. Submission to the similarity control program: texts will be analyzed by Crossref Turnitin software for verification.
  2. Preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Committee: the committee or dossier coordinators evaluate the suitability of the texts to the themes and/or editorial lines of the Journal and to the established publication standards.
  3. Double-blind process: if they pass this initial screening, the texts will be forwarded for evaluation by reviewers in the field.
  4. Final decision: the opinions issued will be analyzed by the Editorial Committee, which will make a decision on publication.

Inter-Ação adopts a double-blind peer review system, preserving the identity of the author in relation to the reviewer and vice versa. The evaluation preferably involves two ad hoc reviewers. Authors will receive a consolidated review informing them whether their text has been accepted or rejected for publication.

Guidelines for reviewers

Experts should provide a detailed review, considering the following criteria: fit with the profile, suitability for the scope and editorial lines of the journal; originality; suitability of the title, abstract, objectives, methodological approach, and results; conceptual rigor and precision; clear and coherent methodological approach; quality of writing; suitability of illustrations, tables, and graphs; relevant and current bibliography; and compliance with the guidelines for authors.

At the end of the review, the reviewer has the option to choose one of the following: accepted in its current form; accepted with minor revisions; accepted with detailed revisions; or rejected.
