INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Guidelines for authors

The registration in the system and subsequent access, through login and password, are mandatory for the submission of papers, as well as to follow the ongoing editorial process. Thus, the text must be sent, exclusively, electronically from the periodical's portal: https://periodicos.ufsm.br/regae/index.

The texts submitted to the periodical must be original, from Brazilian or foreign authors, written in Portuguese or English.

It is requested that submissions are not made exclusively with a bibliographic review.

It is encouraged the submission of English language texts.

Maximum number of authors per article: four.

Texts that have been presented in events are accepted.

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify the compliance of the submission with respect to the following: the text observes the thematic areas of the periodical - school administration, school management, educational policies, educational evaluation and institutional evaluation; the contribution has not been submitted to another periodical; the files for submission are in Microsoft Word format; - the urls for the references have been informed, when necessary; the text follows the style patterns and bibliographic requirements described in guidelines for authors, in the About section of the periodical; the identification of authorship of the work has been removed from the file and from the properties option in the text editor, with a view to guaranteeing the secrecy criterion, according to instructions available at ensuring blind peer review.

How and where to send the text?

The text must be sent exclusively by electronic means, Seer/OJS system, available at the periodical's portal: https://periodicos.ufsm.br/regae/index.

What is the file format?

The file must be sent in Word for Windows format, with the following settings:

  1. font Arial;
  2. size 12;
  3. top, bottom, left, and right margins: 2cm;
  4. space between lines: multiple 1.15.

Do not insert signs, symbols, tabs, or markers.

How extensive is the text?

There is no maximum length for the article text.

What is the length of the abstracts?

The abstracts must be submitted in Portuguese and English and each abstract must have a maximum of 800 characters, with spaces.

And the keywords?

Abstracts must be accompanied by three to five keywords that clearly and precisely describe the thematic content of the text.

They must be written in such a way as to facilitate text recovery from indexers. The use of the Brazilian Thesaurus of Education is recommended.

What information about the author should be presented?

Information about the author must be informed in the profile registered in the periodical's system and required by the Seer/OJS system. It must be observed, in particular, the full name without abbreviations, e-mail, institutional affiliation; summary of the biography, registration number in Orcid.

Is it possible to use illustrations?

The use of illustrations is of free choice of the authors. When it is the case, they must have their position defined in the text by the author, with the appropriate numbering, title and presentation of the references that correspond to them.

Illustrations should be inserted into the text, in Jpeg format, and with a resolution of 300 DPI.

How to present citations?

Citations should follow the following criteria:

  1. Textual citations of up to three lines should be incorporated into the paragraph, transcribed between "quotation marks", followed by the surname of the author of the citation, year of publication and page number, in brackets. Example: (Lourenço Filho, 1955, p. 30);
  2. The textual citations with more than three lines, must appear highlighted in another paragraph, with single spacing, with 4cm indentation in the left margin, font size 11 and without "quotation marks".

How to present the references at the end of the text?

References must include the author's name, title of the work in italics, city of publication, name of the publisher, year of publication.

How to present footnotes?

Footnotes are a free choice of the authors and can be used to enrich the text. They should be presented throughout the text, consecutively numbered and should be of an explanatory nature.

Who is responsible for the grammatical correction of the text?

The grammatical correction of the text is the responsibility of the authors. However, editors are free to make as many changes as they deem necessary to adapt the text to the editorial pattern of the periodical.

How is collaboration with the periodical configured?

Collaboration with the periodical is free of charge and does not imply any kind of obligation by it or by UFSM.
The texts published represent the expression of the point of view of their authors and not the official position of the periodical.

Submissions that do not conform to the guidelines will be returned to the authors.

 

Submission evaluation stages

The article evaluation modality is double blind and the texts go through the following evaluation stages.

  • Stage 1: analysis regarding the structure
    This stage is the responsibility of the editors. The texts are evaluated for their adequacy to the general criteria of the periodical and to the editorial line.
    Articles will be returned to the authors if: a) are configured solely as a bibliographical review; b) are configured as a simple cut of a dissertation or thesis, without due adaptation; c) are presented in the form of a research project or report; d) do not present a sufficiently in-depth analysis of the theme they propose to address; e) do not focus their problematic, not even indirectly, in the field of school administration, school management, educational policies, educational evaluation and institutional evaluation; f) present excessive errors of writing or structuring of the text, to the point of making difficult the understanding of the parts or even of the whole; g) do not present the structure of article usually practiced in periodicals; h) do not fulfill the editorial norms of the periodical.
    Texts with these characteristics are returned to the authors with the suggestion that they be reformulated, for the purpose of new submission and evaluation. Papers that do not fit any of the above characteristics will be considered eligible for the second stage.
  • Stage 2: peer review on merit
    In the second stage, the article, without identifying the author, is sent to at least two referees from the specific thematic area of the work, members of the editorial committee or ad hoc guests, from two different states or from abroad. For the designation of the referees, the information available in the periodical's registry is considered.
    The criteria for evaluating the text take into consideration: a) formal aspects of the text;    b) topicality and relevance of the theme; c) originality; d) clear indication of the objectives, e) research methodology, f) up-to-date theoretical discussion; g) adequacy of the bibliography; h) relevance of the documents to be published or attached.
    The referees may accept the article altogether, accept it with reservations, or reject it. Any of these situations must be justified by a descriptive opinion.
    Situations: a) when both referees accept the work, it moves on to the next phase; b) when both referees reject the work, the paper is returned to the author and filed in the periodical's system; c) when one or both referees ask for reformulations, the work is returned to the author with the request that he considers the opinions and reformulates it within thirty days. When the author resubmits the reformulated text and demonstrates to have followed the suggestions of the referees, it is re-evaluated.
  • Stage 3: revision and adaptation of the paper to the periodical norms
    Once accepted for publication, the paper is submitted to language, normalization, and formatting revision.

 

Translations

Translations must be followed up by the permission of the author of the original work. If the work is in the public domain, this procedure is not necessary. The author of the translation is responsible for the information.

 

Papers presented in events

Papers that have already been presented in events may be accepted for publication. Proposals are subject to the same evaluation criteria as unpublished originals. The author is responsible for informing the credits of the event in which the work was originally presented.

 

Copyright statement

Authors retain copyright and grant the periodical the right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons: Attribution-NonCommercial-NonDerivatives 4.0 International - CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, which allows sharing of the work with acknowledgment of authorship and initial publication in this periodical.

Authors have authorization to separately sign additional contracts for non-exclusive distribution of the paper’s version published in this periodical, such as publishing in an institutional repository or as a book chapter, with acknowledgment of authorship and initial publication in this periodical.

Authors are allowed and encouraged to publish and distribute their work online, in institutional repositories or on their personal homepage, at any point before or during the editorial process.

 

Privacy policy

The names and addresses informed in this periodical will be used exclusively for the services provided by this publication, and will not be made available for other purposes or to third parties.
