Abstracts The author does a brief history of the issue of equality between the sexes affirming that this is a matter of praxis she points to different modes of interpretation represented by essentialists rationalists and a third line developed on the basis of reflections by Françoise Collin and Hannah Arendt This model called pluralist affirms that it is impossible to theoretically resolve the issue of sexual differences and seeks alternatives to the essentialist and rationalist projects without losing sight of the modern project

Abstracts This article describes the history of reflection on women s labor analyzing the main directions the debates have taken in two areas the production of statistics which gave visibility to women s economic activity in Brazil and the drafting of legislation where the most significant point was women s participation In the 3988 Constituent Assembly The article does not do a theoretical or statistical presentation but rather a narrative on the main theoretical method ological and political questions pertaining to women s labor seeking to identify some prospects for the future

Abstracts The retired people s movement and programs for the so called Third Age are analyzed as evidence of a new Identity for the elderly In Brazil The prevalence of men in the retired people s movement and that of women In the programs leads the author to include gender differences in this approach to aging She also concludes that elderly men stress values like clarity and action while elderly women focus on freedom and personal satisfaction

Abstracts The authors of this article point to a tendency in the literature to present the working class as homogeneous thus disregarding the gender category Their function of the class category Their analysis affirms that the Marxist theoretical framework is incapable of depicting the oppression suffered by women or of Identifying articulations between sex and class categories in solving gender contradictions The paper also contains an analysis of these articulations In the context of developing countries.
