Abstract

BARRETTO, Elba Siqueira de Sá. Teachers of deprived urban areas: simple solutions for complex problems. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1975, n.14, pp.97-110. ISSN 0100-1574.

This work consists of an analysis of about 550 reports prepared by primary school-teachers from the peripheric area of the city of São Paulo regarding difficulties found in the class-rooms. These difficulties are either of didactic-pedagogical nature or refer to pupil's behavioral problems. The study shows the conflicts deriving from the confrontation between two ways of urban life:one represented by the school through its teacher - a middle class person - and the other experienced by the pupils, who usually come from the popular classes. It also analyses some of the resources used by the school for transmitting values, expectations and hopes which are peculiar to certain groups or social classes.

Keywords : Zona urbana; Periferia; São Paulo; Sala de aula; Relações professor-aluno; Comportamento; Professores.
