Abstract

MARIN, Barbara. Sex role stereotypes in Colombia. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1975, n.15, pp.3-7. ISSN 0100-1574.

Two studies on sex role stereotypes in Colombia are reported in this paper. In the first one a translation of the Rosenkrantz questionaire was applied to high school and college students of both sexex and parents of students. The second study focused onthe development of sex role stereotypes in 10 to 14 yearsold children, half boys, half girls, from three groups with different family backgrounds: one living with their natural parents, one who had recently entered a government institution for children without parents and one living in adoptive homes. A special instrument was constructed and validated for this research. Both studies showed that in general terms Colombians are like other groups in their perceptions of sex roles, while at the same time presenting some interesting differences.
