This paper sought to investigate the relations between school achievement and stage of cognitive development, by testing 2^nd to 8^th grade and college students. Following the criteria used, the results do not allow any association between piagetian formal or functional development levelsand school achievement in both schooling levels examined;also, college and university students attending General Didatics classes, whose bad performance had been assessed by the author, cannot be explained in terms of formal operational insufficiency
