Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Thais Baptista Carvalho de. Education, the school, and participation. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1994, n.89, pp.59-71. ISSN 0100-1574.

The article discusses feelings held with respect to education and schools by the second grade students of the Rio de Janeiro public system. It also discusses the school-participaion relation in light of the significance of the school and education. Students opinions were analyzed according to the theoretical subjects given, which were based onthe Michel Pêcheux line of Discourse Analysis. That methodology's option implied a particular view of the subject. Therefore, this paper treats specifically of this subject-in-education, because reflection presupposes that the subject cannot be spoken of, generically or universally, but that the different positions it takes in the text may. Consequently, it did not try to find the meaning of education versus school, but the various meanings esconced in these themes and to comprehend the historical process that determine the permanence of one and be diminishing flame of the other. In the end, the article favored a participative, pluralistic, and ethical education as an antidote to the authoritarian forms that impregnate arguments of and about education, by alerting of the risks of falling into a "neutral" eclecticism, where no one is right, where there is no reason, where it's okay you do or if you don't.

Keywords : Educação; Escola; Participação.
