Abstract

TEIXEIRA, António; MOTA, José; MORGADO, Lina  and  SPILKER, Maria João. iMOOC: An Institutional Pedagogical Model for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Educ. Form. Tecnol. [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.1, pp.4-12. ISSN 1646-933X.  https://doi.org/10.1646‐933X-v8n1201501060004.

The emergence of a massive open online education brought about a new set of challenging possibilities to widen the access to a quality education. However, most MOOCs currently on offer are not designed to foster and support quality collaborative learning experiences that meet the quality requirements of a formal institutional environment. In this article we present the iMOOC pedagogical model developed at the Portuguese Open University (UAb.pt). We demonstrate how a synthesis of a connectivist approach and a more structured approach allows to bridge the gap between massive, non-formal learning opportunities and formal higher education.
