Abstract

UMERES, Isabella Carolina  and  VENTURI, Tiago. VACCINE EDUCATION IN SCIENCE EDUCATION: an analysis of the integrating projects textbooks in the new high school. Revista Teias [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.76, pp.252-266.  Epub Mar 07, 2024. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2024.78059.

In the post-pandemic Brazilian context and vaccination decline, the present study aimed to analyze the topic of vaccines in the textbooks of the integrator projects, in the area of natural sciences and its technologies, newcomers in basic education as a result of secondary education reform. From a qualitative perspective, through content analysis, eleven books from the 2021 National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD) were analyzed. Worryingly, two made no mention of the topic of vaccines. On the other hand, nine books stood out in discussions involving the relationships between the topic, science and society, highlighting the discussions involving the identification of fake news on social media, resulting from antivaccination movements. However, the production, biological functioning of vaccines and the body's immune process was deficient. Finally, adjustments to the PNLD public notices are defended, encouraging teachers and their teacher education to deepen the theme, especially their deficiencies, in favor of the development of knowledge necessary for a vaccine education that contributes to the processes of scientific literacy and media literacy to citizenship education in science education.
