Abstract

PEREIRA DA SILVA, Anicleide  and  CAVALCANTI HEBER PEDREIRA DE FREITAS, Florence. The commodification discourse of education in the relationship between academic university and corporate university. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2021, vol.46, e43455.  Epub Mar 19, 2024. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644443455.

Intending to contribute to studies related to social and discursive contemporary practices about academic education and its permeability to managerial ideologies which support the Corporate Education dircourses (CE); this theoretical essay aims to contextualize the phenomenon of commodification in higher education, under the perspective of Norman Fairclough and the social theory of discourse. It explores discursive constructions in studies that represent reflections on this phenomenon in higher education. It discusses how arguments and forms of conception about corporate universities crossed the discourse of corporate education with academic education and as advocates of the first they began to argue the possibility that these corporate training centers represent an alternative model, for profit, based on the market and partnerships between higher education institutions, companies and governments. It concludes with an indication of the formation of the production industry and the dissemination of discursive and social practices of EC; what makes EC also a business by selling courses and other management products, including public policies aimed at educational innovation.

Keywords : Discourse; Corporate Education; Commodification of Higher Education.
