Abstract

MORAES, Luciana Ferreira da Silva  and  ONOFRE, Elenice Maria Cammarosano. Continuing teacher training for schools in liberty deprivation units. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2021, vol.46, e61420.  Epub Nov 29, 2023. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644461420.

This article presents research results that aimed to investigate the formative needs of EJA teachers who work in classrooms of liberty deprivation units. It is inserted in the intersection of the themes of continuing education, teaching and education, based on the Liberation Pedagogy of Paulo Freire. This is a qualitative research in the dialogical perspective of participant observation in formative meetings with teachers and narrative interviews. After data collection and organization in field notes, content analysis was used, based on the steps suggested by Bardin (2016): pre-analysis; scanning of the material; treatment of results, inference and interpretation. Two focuses of study analysis emerged based on the frequency indicators: the teachers' statements for the search for continuing education and teachers' learning expectations. The teachers' statements for the search for continuing education were chosen for the reflections of this article, which indicate the improvement of educational practice, new knowledge and the permanence or rise in the labor market. The teachers indicate love and dream as specific references for teaching in prison classrooms; these, shared in the formative meetings, enhance the commitment and engagement to carry on, despite the objective and subjective challenges and conditions of work, with the teaching activity with people momentarily removed from social life.

Keywords : school education in prisons; teacher training; teaching and prisons.
