Abstract: The article is the result of research on the struggle of early childhood educators and teachers of primary and secondary education in Portugal in the face of the intensification of the precariousness of teaching work, imposed by "New Public Management". The objective is to analyze the main agendas of struggle instigated by the reform of the Portuguese State and, consequently, by the restructuring of the education system. In this context, it is considered that the current management of educational systems excels in performativity, competitiveness, result, efficiency, evaluation, excellence and merit. It is based on the theoretical-methodological framework of dialectical historical materialism and takes as empirical reference the National Federation of Teachers (FENPROF). This is a bibliographical research, qualitative with literature review via analysis of primary and secondary sources and also documentary analysis. As a result, it should be noted that, although educational policies derive from political agreements between the Portuguese government and international bodies, mediated by the European Union (EU), this has not been sufficient to create consensus among teachers and, not even, prevent the correlation of forces. It is therefore concluded that FENPROF has been combative in the process of intensifying the precariousness of teaching work and, therefore, has achieved positive results, albeit limited, results in terms of its claims in times of capital crisis.
