Given the increasing in the occurrence and severity of conflicts occurring in school environments, this study is dedicated to observe it has been conducted at the initiative of the Internal Committees for School Violence and Accident Prevention (CIPAVEs), having as scenario the public schools of Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul. The observation of increase and aggravation of the conflicts is not restricted to the school environments. Generally speaking, it can be seen that society has been progressively suffering from conflict situations, which can be seen in the increasing volume of judicial proceedings, and with the escalation of violence and crime, for example. In the municipality of Viamão, these issues are quite evident. In conducting the analysis, the guiding question for the preparation of research problem investigates, as instrumental for managing conflicts and violence in the school environment, what are the main limits and potential of CIPAVEs as perceived by members of the management teams of the schools. To answer this question, occurrences recorded during 2016, 2017 and 2018 were analyzed by the public schools of the municipality of Viamão, State of Rio Grande do Sul, in the Mapping-CIPAVE database, public policy of state initiative aimed at managing school conflicts. The perceptions expressed by members of the respective management teams about the handling of the referred occurrences were also investigated. The methodological strategy designed for the study is descriptive, sequential-exploratory, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Initially, the theoretical framework of the research is delineated from a literature review about the management of school conflicts, supporting the analysis of the data registered in the CIPAVE database, composing an interdisciplinary panorama to instrumentalize the examination of the cases that stood out, undertaking visits in schools and interviews with managers.
