Abstract

ARAUJO, Naim Rodrigues de  and  CUNHA, Charles Moreira. Interpretation of the social disability model from the normality concept of Canguilhem. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2020, vol.25, edossie.18. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v25.dossie.18.

This study proposes an approximate between the discussions proposed by the social model of disability and the philosophical conceptions of the doctor and philosopher Georges Canguilhem; from the concepts of disease, pathology, anomaly, normality and abnormality, we will try to update the discussion by dialoguing with the prepositions of the social model of disability. We chose as a theoretical reference the work The normal and the pathological of Georges Canguilhem, and the contributions of Débora Diniz in the work What is Disability; in addition, a search in the Google academic platform was made with the following descriptors: normal – abnormal – norm – normality – disability. The following descriptions were made: normal / disability, abnormal / disability, norm / disability and normality / disability. After reading the abstracts we found that four texts found deal with the theme addressed in this article, therefore, use the option to integrate with the theoretical framework of this study. It is hoped that this approach will allow a reflection on the concept of normality, distancing it from disability, and thus increasing the chances of reaching an increasingly inclusive society.
