Abstract

KETZER, Patricia  and  ROCHA, Róbson Peres da. Thinking race: Education as a practice of freedom to overcome racism. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.27, e022015.  Epub Mar 10, 2024. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v27.e022015.

This article addresses, through bibliographic research, the importance of education as a practice of freedom against racism. Based on that, we divided the work into three sections: first, we will approach racism as a social construction based on the idea of race, which from racialization produces social roles of submission and tends to worsen by depleeting education. In a second step, the role of the black movement in the struggle for education and the valorization of other types of knowledge is stands out. Finally, with the help of bell hooks, we argue that an education as a practice of freedom, based on an engaged pedagogy, helps in the dissolution of racism.
