Abstract

BATISTA, Ricardo dos Santos. A School of Nursing in the state of Rio de Janeiro: (inter)national interests for Brazilian female education (1943-1948). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2024, vol.24, e315.  Epub Feb 02, 2024. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v24.2024.e315.

This article aims to analyze the process of creation and functioning of the School of Nursing of the State of Rio de Janeiro between 1943 and 1948. It is understood how national and international agents interacted in the context of the “Good Neighbor” policy. The sources used were documents from the Special Public Health Service (SESP) and newspapers, analyzed from the evidence paradigm proposed by Carlo Ginzburg. It is concluded that, although the School was created with the support of a bilateral Brazil/States agency (SESP), the nationalist interests of the Getúlio Vargas government were predominant.

Keywords : SESP; history of nursing; School of Nursing of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
