Abstract

IPAR, EZEQUIEL EDUARDO. DISCONTENT WITH GLOBALIZATION. NEW FORM. OF SOCIAL AUTHORITARIANISM. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2017, vol.24, n.2, pp.15-32. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v24n2p15-32.

In the context of the crisis that broke out in the financial market in 2008, many social scientists diagnosed a “discontent with globalization”, which brought together a number of different phenomena: the resurgence of nationalism, the breaking of institutionalized solidarity pacts, the growing influence of openly xenophobic and racist political discourses and parties, a new wave of criticism of the social inequalities generated by deregulated capitalism and new demands for social protection. In this context of “discontent with globalization” the emergence of new and old forms of social authoritarianism give form to a specific constellation of phenomena, that must be investigated in its particularity. Our work focuses on this constellation of phenomena of contemporary social authoritarianism, connecting with a broader research that addresses the problems and challenges of contemporary democracies.

Keywords : AUTHORITARIANISM; IDEOLOGY; DEMOCRACY.
