Abstract

We present the results of an investigation carried out in 3rd and 6th grade portuguese classrooms that identify the dimensions that integrate the knowledge of the topics (content), the teacher, when teaches the reproduction of plants. For this purpose, video and audio recordings were made. The information was treated with content analysis and contrasted with the existing literature in a top-down Bottom-up methodological perspective. Five aspects of different natures were identified, all related to the knowledge of the content: i)concepts of biology and associated examples; ii)laws, principles and theories of biology; iii)procedures and techniques of observation in biology; iv)models related to the concept of biology and v)biological facts and phenomena.
