Abstract

This text aiming to reflect on the representations of childhood at the beginning of the 20th century, in the São Leopoldo/RS, from safeguarded in the collection of the Visconde de São Leopoldo Historical Museum. The photographs were organized and analyzed from theoretical references in Cultural History. We observed images of children in different spaces, and two categories were selected to present them: representations of childhood at school and representations of childhood in society. We identified collective and individual representations, differentiation by sex, as well as elements of the school's material culture absence of other childhoods that were not represented by children of Germanic origin.
