Abstract

PATORE, José  and  CEOTTO, Eny E.. Wages differences between engineers, economists and basic sciences personnel.. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1974, n.10, pp.3-12. ISSN 0100-1574.

This article analyses wage variation with and among three professional categories: Engineering, Economy/Buseness Administration and Basic Sciences. In the first part of the study it is verified whether wage differences are due to the professional title held by the members of each professional group. In the second place the influence of five individual variables in determining wages within each professional group is studied: age, years in the organization, years in the job, functional importance and professional capability. Main conclusions are that the type of training and professional title held by the members of the three professional categories are fundamental factors in explaining the observed wage variations. Within groups, while time seems to be an important factor affecting engineers and economists/administrators salary, for the basic sciences personnel the job held within the hierarchical structure of the organization is more important in determining the wage pattern.
