This paper is a report of projects developed in two schools in São Paulo by a team formed by five architects, a sociologist and a journalism student, interested in understanding how children perceive the space where they live. One of the schools is a public one, located downtown; the other one is private, in a suburban area. In the public school the development of the project followed the destruction of the old building and the construction of the new one. In this school the student participated in the choice of the old house's elements that would be used in the recreation area to be build close to the new house.
