Abstract

NEGRAO, Carlos Eduardo. Os mini-campeões. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1980, n.34, pp.29-34. ISSN 0100-1574.

This paper intends to point out to some abuses committed against children in favour of sport. Based on the specific physiological needs related to the efficient participation in some kinds of sport, the article discusses what are the psychological-anatomical implications of premature sport competition practice. Most of the time the different kinds of sport require the development of some physical abilities that should not be emphazised during childhood. There are also the risks of accident caused by differences in physical maturation in sports that involve body contact, since children's competitions are organized according to their chronological - and not biological - age. These arguments do not invalidate the practice of physical activity by children; on the contrary, this early practice.
