The author discusses how the educational evaluation practices adopted in Latin America, transplanted from the United States, are inadequate to the Latin American culture. The emphasis put on the individual performance, on the measurable effects of the processes to be evaluated, and on the parts of the whole are elements that shock with the basic Latin American values. The school failure of considerable parcels of the Latin American population may mean a pacific resistance to acculturation, a form of "survival of the weakest".
