Abstract

This is a report of two studies undertaken with graduate students which attempt to increase our knowledge about the teaching-learning process. In the first one 30 subjects (GE) were taught under teaching techniques based on Piaget whereas for the other 22 subjects (GC) the usual course methodology was mantained. Two forms of pre and post testswere used: a multiple choice test and an essay test. Two aspects of the results can be regarded as specially relevant: a) the two groups could be differentiated in the multiple choice test but not in the essay test; b) the evaluations made during GE's teaching-learning process were not correlated with the post test. On account of those results a second study was devised which aimed to analyse the judgements made by eleven subjects on the meaning of the results obtained in the first study. The fidings suggested that the process to which the students were submitted is discontinuous, since variables as school life, teacher's type of demands, need of approval in the course, among others, determined students' accademic achievement more than the methodology used.
