The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of breastfeeding from the standpoint of observing whether this practice is favored to some extent and lasts longer when the child is male. The basic orientation was provided from discovering through an examination of vital statistics that births and deaths of females are markedly under-registered. Although the results of this study did no produce statistically significant differences in connection with the proposed working hypothesis, the systematically higher prevalence and longer average breastfeeding period for boys point to the need for further studies to investigate the issue in greater depth.
