ABSTRACT This article analyses the impact of the relevant growth of the number of women workers in the Brazilian labor force, and of its transformations since the seventies - higher activity rates of the married and mothers, stronger feminine presence in white collar and sales occupations on building public policies for equal oportunities, non-discrimination and ideal working conditions. Women participate actively in the discussions for the new Constitution and present their proposals through their channels, like the feminine Councils. The critical assessment of the working legislation is an important step. On this subject, it seems there is no consensus among women: some of them think there should be equality between both sexes workers in all aspects but maternity, which means protection in the Law should be eliminated, and protection of the pregnant worker sustained. On the other side, some women defend the idea of mantaining different criteria for the sexes as a compensation for the discriminated woman worker.
