Initially, the theme was developed through the presentation and discussion of data collected by Fundação IBGE and Fundação SEADE, about the schooling level of the black population living in the State of São Paulo and in the metropolitan area of São Paulo. Both the papers delivered and the debate that followed approached the methodological questions and the ideological issues related to information collecting about color in the Demographic Censuses and in other official surveys on Brazilian population. Speakers and moderator took further the analysis on the discriminating mechanisms affecting black students, at both the organizational and curricular levels in the school system.
