Abstract

CONCAGH, Viviana Bosi. A escola-família agrícola no Espírito Santo. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1989, n.68, pp.89-98. ISSN 0100-1574.

EFAs are technical agricultural family schools, providing secondary and high school teaching to rural populations in the State of Espírito Santo (SE of Brazil). Created by a local educational movement (MEPES) their aim is to keep the small farmer in the countryside (thus reducing rural exodus) by increasing political consciousness and making him become a historical agent in his social group. With an administrative structure that tries to be democratic and a methodology that values the student's community culture, EFAs present original contributions, such as a system of alter Nance between home and school and the involvement of students' parents. We discuss here both the achievements of this educational project and the contradictions experienced between the political-pedagogic ideal and the hindrances to its practice.
