Abstract

This paper sought to investigate the relations between school achievement and stage of cognitive development, by testing 2nd to 8th grade and college students. Following the criteria used, the results do not allow any association between piagetian formal or functional development levelsand school achievement in both schooling levels examined;also, college and university students attending General Didatics classes, whose bad performance had been assessed by the author, cannot be explained in terms of formal operational insufficiency
