Abstract

CAMARGO, Brígido Vizeu; DAGOSTIN, Carla Giovana  and  COUTINHO, Marisa. Violence against women made visible through the new women's police station (Florianópolis, 1986-1988). Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1991, n.78, pp.51-58. ISSN 0100-1574.

The article describes some dimensions of violence against women as reported by the victims at the Women's Police Station in the city of Florianópolis, capital of a Southern Stata (Brazil). Statistical, descriptive information was gathered fromover 2.000 registers from the three first years of the station's operation. Though the records and the way the claims are registered do not allow for a broad, immediate inderstanding of the circumstances of violence, it was assessed that, in most cases, the charge is made by the victim herself, and violence results in harm to the woman's body; the prevailing relationship between the woman and the accused is of a conjugal type; and most of the victims are housewives or maids.

Keywords : Mulheres; Violência.
