Abstract

DAUSTER, Tania. Short-lived childhood: work and schooling among poor children and youth. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1992, n.82, pp.31-36. ISSN 0100-1574.

With the aim of deepening the issue of school failure among underprivileged children, this text sums up an anthropological research with children and young people from a slum in Rio de Janeiro who work and study: within the cultural logics of their families, working since an early age has other meanings besides the economic one, and studying assumes an ambiguous place and meaning, leading children to "short-lived schooling".

Keywords : Relação Educação-Trabalho; Antropologia; Infância; Cultura de Classe .
