Abstract

CARVALHO, Marília Pinto de. Ritmos, fragmentações: tempo e trabalho docente numa escola pública de 1º grauRhythms, fragmentations: time and teaching organization in a public basic school. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1993, n.84, pp.17-30. ISSN 0100-1574.

An ethnographic investigation in a basic school in the outskirts of The Great São Paulo has allowed pointing out sharp differences in the organization and use of time among morning, afternoon and evening turns, when the school receives different kinds of studentsand teachers. Data from observation along 1990 terms and from speeches by educators and school officials lead to questioning some current debate issues, related to schooltime, to changes in grades arrangement, as well as to professional, gender-related attitudes that mark differences between lower and upper-grade teachers.
