Abstract

VITORIA, Telma  and  ROSSETTI-FERREIRA, Maria Clotilde. Processos de adaptação na creche. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1993, n.86, pp.55-64. ISSN 0100-1574.

The entry of the child and the family into a day care center, as well as any change of group or of caretaker, are delicate situations that require care, knowledge and experience from the staff. The infant or toddler's reactions to new people and situations are much influenced by the relationship that the mother, the father and other relatives establish with that news. The adaptation process will be much easier when they know the nursery school environment and routine, as they can establish a reliable and affectionate relationship with the child's caretakers. Based on several experiences working on those questions with caretakers and families, we have realized that, in order to attain quality of care, some work should always be done regarding the adaptation processes. This work can be more or less sophisticated, depending on the social and economic resources of the day care center.
