Abstract

CARVALHO, José Sérgio. The theory of science found in Weber and research in education. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1994, n.90, pp.25-35. ISSN 0100-1574.

From the verification of the presence, common as well as tragic, of educational abstractionism in the investigations on education - seen by the author as the formulation of general principles that are intended to describe and explain a specific phenomenon but that give little attention to the concrete conditions in which the educational process takes place - the article seeks to investigate the possible fruitfulness of Weber an methodology to overcome this tendency. With this purpose in mind, the author seeks to reconstruct the basic problems in methodology encountered by Weber, as well as his reflections on the social significance of science, the possible "objectivity" of the social science and the feature of the "ideal type" as intellectual instruments potentially fruitful for investigations in education.

Keywords : Weber; Investigação; Educacional; Epistemologia; Metodologia.
