Abstract

GOTLIB, Nádia Battella. The difficult family ties. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1994, n.91, pp.93-99. ISSN 0100-1574.

Reading of the short stories in Clarice Lispector's Laços de Família (Family Ties), published in 1960, leads to a questioning of a theme reiterated in the literary and journalistic writings of this authoress on the difficulties of family interrelationing. Some points of structural construction and of analysis of personages of three short stories of the volume being viewed - "Amor", "Family Ties", and "Feliz Aniversário" - allow us to assess similarities and differences in relation to the way family ties are experienced. The works start with the analysis of the female character that represents the maternal figure that appears in three different circumstances. Although the roles in the three stories have as their most important aspects in the combination of positive elements (love) and negative (hate) the reason for the difficulty of the interrelation. There are variations stemming from their degree of predominance in each of the stories since what stands out in one story is construction, in another heritage/inheritance, and in yet another, the rejection of these family ties.

Keywords : Família; Maternidade; Identidade; Conto.
