Abstract

LOUREIRO, Maria Rita  and  DURAND, José Carlos. The professional graduate program in administration compared to the academic graduate program. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1995, n.94, pp.05-14. ISSN 0100-1574.

This field study gathered statements from graduate students and professors in very specific areas business administration, specialization in finances, public administration, physics and the social and the economic sciences. It permitted observation of how the business field imposes its demands on the school system. The attitudes and behavior of students and professors in relation to graduate programs are compared. The results obtained show substantive differences between what are called "professional graduate" programs (in administration) and "academic graduate" programs (in the pure sciences and philosophy). Consequently, the use of standardized criteria to evaluate school productivity (the number of theses and dissertations, the number and quality of publications, etc.) is shown to be questionable in function of the particulars of each professional field.
