Abstract

LEITE, Sérgio Antonio da Silva  and  SOUZA, Cláudia Bernardino de. Literacy training in teacher formation process. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1995, n.94, pp.15-24. ISSN 0100-1574.

This study aims to describe and analyse the literacy training not presently transmitted during the process of teacher formation in the public school, in the city of Campinas, São Paulo. It is based on the supposition that the social conditions present, as well as the progress in pedagogical theory observed recently, permitted the surpassing of the model of literacy training considered to be traditional in the direction of a functional model of literacy training. The data suggest that the majority of 4th. grade pupils in the course and their respective teachers still present what are considered to be traditional concepts of literacy. The exceptions are represented by the students and professors of CEFAM (Centers for training and Advanced Studies in Education). This data is discussed here.
