SILVA, Maria Alice Setubal; RIBEIRO, Maria José Reginato; SAMPAIO, Maria das Mercês Ferreira  and  QUADRADO, Alice Davanço. Focussing the analysis on the school: a study on 16 brazilian schools. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1995, n.95, pp.43-50. ISSN 0100-1574.

This study has recorded and analyzed the experience of 16 public basic schools all over Brazil, seeking to know the conditions that allow for effective changes in attitudes and values, so that the focus of educational work be actual learning, enabling students to take full part in contemporary society economic, politic, social, and cultural life. With UNICEF support, the Center for Research on Education and Culture (CENPEC) has selected 16 schools where conspicuous efforts are being made to improve quality, taking into account the diversity of national reality. This article sums up main trends found in those schools - construction of a school project, participative management, changes in pedagogic practices - that point to reversing present setbacks in Brazilian educational system
