Abstract

ROJAS FIGUEROA, Alfredo. From resignation to consent? Privatization of basic and mid-level education in Chile. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1997, n.100, pp.49-56. ISSN 0100-1574.

The article intends to provide a political frame of reference in relation with the changes experienced by Chilean educational decision makers from 1990 to 1995. During this period, a democratically elected government took over, ending 17 years of Pinochet's military dictatorship. The new authorities did not interrupt the major changes in the Chilean education initiated during the military regime; particularly, the "municipalización" and privatization of the public centralized education system. The author analyses the reasons why this major political change occurred; i. e., why the new democratic government seem to move from a simple accomodation to the imposed model to the complete acceptation of it.
