Abstract

GUADILLA, Carmen García. Latin American University: from the "Casillero vacío" to the socially sustainable scenario. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1997, n.101, pp.82-112. ISSN 0100-1574.

The higher education policies under development in some Latin American countries prioritize the sectors most involved in the globalization process or in economic integration agreements, neglecting on the other hand attention to other economic and social sectors. This article speaks of the need to be make more explicit, in the new agenda for transformation, that quality education, to be able to respond to economic competitiveness, is just as important as education that produces knowledge and trains professionals capable of increasing the productive organizational and managerial capacity of some social sectors.
