The text discusses some of the possible connections between education and citizenship, from a historical perspective, presupposing that education is always at the service of a specific kind of citizenship, even if at times not explicitly. In that manner, education is never neutral. In order to discuss the implicationseducation has in creating for human beings different types of inclusion in the social universe, different kinds of citizenship paradigms are discussed, having as a guideline the role played by the concept of equality.
