This article aims to indicate three of the challenges faced by religious education in a secular world and how the relations between religion and the secularization of society have affected education in Brazil and thus generated significant changes in the status of religious education and in all school disciplines and contents, which makes it necessary to reflect carefully on the meaning of such education and on the long-term impact it shall have on the Brazilian society.
