Abstract

VANALI, Ana Crhistina  and  SILVA, Paulo Vinícius Baptista da. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IN STRICTO SENSU GRADUATE PROGRAMS: ANALYSIS OF THE UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO PARANÁ. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 2019, vol.49, n.171, pp.86-108.  Epub May 13, 2019. ISSN 1980-5314.  https://doi.org/10.1590/198053145911.

This article discusses the distribution of teachers and students by color/race in stricto sensu graduate programs of the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), analyzing the extent of white hegemony and the degree to which the black population was able to enter into the graduate programs. In the three academic levels (doctoral, academic master’s and professional master’s), the black population is under-represented in the student and teaching bodies. In the teaching body, the space of academic power, the under-representation of blacks is higher and their presence is residual - or practically non-existent - in some programs. The data demonstrate the high racial inequality in stricto sensu graduate programs in the UFPR, which justifies the creation of affirmative action policies in its other academic levels besides the graduate programs.
