Abstract

OLIVER-BARCELO, Mar; FERRER-RIBOT, Maria  and  MOREY-LOPEZ, Mercè. MULTICULTURALITY AND ARTS EDUCATION IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CURRICULUM. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 2022, vol.52, e08865.  Epub June 03, 2022. ISSN 1980-5314.  https://doi.org/10.1590/198053148865.

This study explores Art Education in Early Childhood Education curricula in ten countries - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic - from the theories of critical pedagogy and multiculturalism. To this purpose, a qualitative content analysis of the curricula and 25 interviews with experts were carried out. The results indicate that the multicultural approach is generally present in Latin American curricula, but despite this, in many cases it is not transferred to the artistic field. It is proposed to incorporate values in Art Education and to strengthen the concept of hybrid identity; to do so, it is necessary to reinforce teacher training.

Keywords : EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION; ARTISTIC EDUCATION; CURRICULA; INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION.
