Abstract

Based on the reference to philosophy, literature, and educational projects - such as the creation of the University of Berlin - at the end of the 18th Century and the beginning of the 19th Century in Germany, it is our purpose to make explicit the polisemy of the concept of Bildung (formation, self-formation, cultivation). We use the paradigmatic counterposition between “aesthetic education” and “political education” as a concrete example, showing its misunderstanding. Finally, we demonstrate the link between these terms and the modern project of constitution of political and aesthetical subjectivity.
