Abstract

SOUZA, Maria Celeste Reis Fernandes  and  FONSECA, Maria da Conceição Ferreira Reis. Cartesian reason, mathematics and subject: Foucault’s gaze. Educ. Real. [online]. 2010, vol.35, n.03, pp.303-322. ISSN 0100-3143.

The purpose of this paper is to confront what is called in the contemporaneity Cartesian Reason, mathematics and subject. In order to do so, inspired by the theoretical path of Michel Foucault, we looked into this discursive production, questioning the productive effects of the ways of thinking reason, mathematics and subject, taken as true in social spaces, and so especially in the teaching of mathematics in school. Thus, we analyzed how such discursive production aims at, within distinctions, lacking markings, hierarchizations and standardizations, capturing lives that, however, always elude.

Keywords : Cartesian Reason; Math Teaching; Subject; Discourse.
