This article is the result of a case study concerning the initial training of high school teachers majoring in Biological Sciences. It focuses on the pedagogical relationship established between 30 trainee teachers and High School students, as one of the activities involved in the discipline called Teaching Practice. Interactions between teachers and students are analyzed looking at how the position of authority of a young teacher is constituted. The planning of the regulative discourse is discussed, a category that belongs to the theoretical perspective of Basil Bernstein, guided by the principle of mutual respect and characterized by spelling out the contextual rules for social practices. Besides the contributions of Basil Bernstein, the theoretical-methodological reference of this research is based on concepts of symbolic interactionism.
