The predominant model for initial teacher education in Brazilian universities is consonant with what is described in the literature as the model of technical rationality. The aim of this article is to present a proposal for reorganization of the initial teacher education’s courses which complies with the new Brazilian educational legislation but, at the same time, goes beyond the prevalent model of teacher education.
