This article discusses the Brazilian academic research about Ethnomathematics, grouping them according to Five areas: Ethnomathematics and Indigenous Education; Ethnomathematics and Teachers Formation; Ethnomathematics and Urban Education; and Ethnomathematics, Epistemology and History of Mathematics. This work focuses on the origins and fundamentions and challenges of this subject today.
