Abstract

RIBEIRO, Henrique Melo Franco  and  VIANA, Maria José Braga. A sociological profile of students of a Brazilian School of Education FaE/UFMG. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2006, n.43, pp.111-136. ISSN 0102-4698.

This work presents the results of a research that aims to track the sociological profile of students in the Pedagogy course of the FaE/UFMG. It proceeded to an analysis of the contents of a corpus of 122 scholastic autobiographies written by students of that course - 7th/8th grades of the daily and nightly shifts, from 2002 and 2003, respectively. The raising and the analysis of the data - that were also organized in tables, lined up in three axes - or blocks of content -, proposed previously. The first axis was concerned with the demographic data; the second dealt with families, focusing basically on parents schooling and occupation; while the third processed information relative to the scholastic trajectories which were researched, along with the data about the study profiles. Some of the traits, among others, clearly marked “that” feature, in terms of its predominance: first, the presence of the female sex; second, the schooling background, the frequency to a public school and the modality of technical course in high school; third, the strong belonging to popular trends; finally the necessity to reconcile the work and study since high school. It should be stressed out that one of the purposes of that investigation consists in the perception that significant part of those students did not have, in the origin, sociocultural and economic conditions which were favorable to permit them the access to higher education, that situation constitutes one of the important traits of this profile.

Keywords : Sociological Profile; Scholastic Trajectories; Scholastic Autobiographies; Pedagogy.
